Be thrilled by a wonderful part of Aquitaine, and enjoy the variety of its landscapes, its architecture and arts, its people and gastronomy...

This tour starts in Bordeaux, a magic name that symbolizes divine wines and joy of life.  In this city and the surrounding area you will also discover wonderful 18th & 19th century architecture, listed WHS by UNESCO. Enjoy a bus and walking tour of the city, and sense the unique atmosphere of one of the most beautiful places in France, remarkably restored, offering an exceptional quality of life. Visit the famous vineyards of Médoc and sample some great wines; take a day tour to the fabulous town of Saint-Emilion, also listed WHS for its stunning medieval architecture and reputed vineyards; and experience the Nature Park of the Bay of Arcachon, a paradise for birds, oyster lovers and windsurfers. Here you will also find amazing sand dunes such as the Dune du Pilat, the largest in Europe!

On the 5th day of your journey, travel by bus to the Basque Country which is a unique corner of France and Spain.  Green rolling hills, picturesque and colourful villages, and mountains on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other will enchant your eyes and soul. You will stay in one of the most beautiful villages in the Basque Country, Aïnhoa, which will be your home base for excursions to various exciting places in France and Spain.

A pleasant way to discover the secrets of this area is to go on a gastronomic journey.  You will visit places where the real and succulent country ham of Bayonne is made; a farm to see and taste genuine ewe milk cheese; and not least, a local vineyard to taste the less well-known but superb wines called Irouléguy.  Explore some local traditions and attend a Basque Pelota game; enjoy a live concert of Basque chants; and visit a workshop where famous Basque fabrics are made.

Basque Country offers so many beautiful cities and towns to explore!  In France, discover Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port; Bayonne; Biarritz, an elegant and wealthy sea resort made famous by Empress Eugenie; and St Jean-de-Luz, the wedding place of Louis XIV.  In Spain you will visit San Sebastian and Bilbao and its world famous Guggenheim Museum.
